sponsoring a 2006 law requiring that the state’s
homeland security office post a plaque recognizing
a god’s role in keeping the country safe. In 2002
state and local officials spent more than $160,000
in legal fees, after they lost and ACLU lawsuit
against Riner’s posting of the Ten Commandments
in public buildings and they still owe $40,000
for a 2005 case in which the Supreme Court ruled
that such displays should be removed. He had “In
God We Trust” written above the daises in the
Senate and House chambers. He sponsored legislation
that permitted the Ten Commandments to be displayed
